How to sew leggings. How to sew knitted leggings. Scheme of work and pattern

Many modern women prefer to wear leggings to highlight their figure. Thanks to the variety of bright and stylish models, the choice depends only on your taste and style. As for young fashionistas who so want to be like their older sisters, mothers and girls from the covers of glossy magazines, their preferences are often unique. Certain shades, patterns and accessories are a great opportunity to stand out among your peers, which the factory cannot provide. If you sew them with your own hands, they will clearly meet the requirements of your little girl, and will also become an exciting journey together into the world of fashion.

In addition, this convenient wardrobe item can be combined with almost any other things. Models made from thin fabric are great for non- long dresses, skirts, shirts and cardigans. Thicker ones go well with shorts, and you can throw them on top a warm sweater or a sweater of any style. In addition, leggings can be combined with any style, be it sporty, classic or casual. Almost any footwear is also suitable: boots, sneakers, ballet flats.

The length can also be chosen according to style. They can be ankle-length, middle length and just above the knee length.

Necessary items and ideas

The main thing in creating exclusive leggings is the choice of fabric. The best option is cotton or polyamide with a small synthetic content. Such fabrics are pleasant to the skin, do not lose their shape and color for a long time after washing and fit perfectly to the figure. For a warmer option, a cooler with lycra or a footer with lycra are great options.

Next you should pay attention to the color and thickness of the threads. Sometimes it makes sense to make a seam in a contrasting color to the fabric. There is also the option of using two in a seam different colors. This perfectly emphasizes the exclusivity of the product.

As for accessories, there are usually none, but you can attach a stylish element to the belt and choose a braid for the end of the leg and the waist. Also, the bottom of the trouser leg can be decorated with buttons or decorative clasps.

Scheme of work and pattern

If you are not confident in your abilities, then you can practice by making leggings from plain or colored fabric for use in physical education lessons, and only then start making the most beautiful item of clothing.

Sewing them is not that difficult. You can take ready-made pattern or, to determine the size and create your own pattern, take ready-made leggings or pants that fit your child perfectly, fold them in half, fold the legs together, trace and add small seam allowances. You can download the finished pattern below, having decided on your dimensions.

Using the pattern, we cut out two identical pieces from the fabric folded in half. The lower part should be folded and stitched. These will be the trouser legs.

Next, we fold the two parts with their right sides facing each other and sew the top part. After this, you need to sew the seams on the legs and bend the upper part so that the elastic fits. The hem is stitched and a hole is left for threading the elastic. After threading the elastic or elastic band and sewing up the hole, all that remains is to add accessories. For example, you can make a nice bow from a small braid and sew a bead to it. It’s up to you to decide which additions and decorations are ideal for the young fashionista; all that remains is to wish you creative success and unlimited flights of imagination.

Well, it’s hard to call it MK... More precisely, it’s impossible at all, because... In my concept, MK is learning something new, presenting your original idea or technology... And now I’ll just show you how, with very little effort, you can save a little on children’s clothing :) Why did I even spend so much time?... Well, after I decided to take part in one handicraft marathon, and set the task to sew leggings for my daughter for the summer, a couple of people puzzled me by asking me to give a link on how I would sew them... maybe someone already described how this is done, but sometimes finding a sensible explanation is more difficult than doing it yourself.. .. Task: make leggings Materials:

  • jersey fabric 50x80 cm (approximately for a girl 122 cm)
  • knitted lace about 50 cm (you can do without it...)
  • elastic band (I take a thick one, it looks neater, but you can also take a thin one, like for panties)
  • matching threads
  • a sewing machine with a zigzag or overlock stitch (but zigzag will work just fine)
  • old leggings frayed or small but not much.
Working hours: about 1 hour :) Level: very simple

Well, let's get started :))) 1. Carefully cut the old leggings along the seam, cut off the elastic at the top and you can cut off the lace at the bottom, if there is any. (I didn't cut it off....) You should end up with 2 identical parts + cut elastic... 2. fold the fabric right side inward to the size of the resulting parts of the old leggings. My fabric is double-sided 100% cotton, I once bought it online for dolls (trial meter), but it didn’t match the color, but its quality is much better than the quality of even expensive store-bought fabrics, and I decided to leave it and not bother with a return, especially since the color itself is very nice :) We apply the resulting pattern and pin it well, without stretching or bending the fabric. BE SURE TO CHECK THE WEAVE OF THE FABRIC it should match the weave of your old leggings or for those more knowledgeable with a shared thread... 3. Depending on the size of the elastic, set aside double the width of the elastic + 1.5 cm for the seam + 5 cm for the height, or if the old ones were the same size, then do not add the extra 5 cm... Draw a line parallel to the pattern line I'm too lazy to draw, I cut it like that :) Draw around the pattern leaving 1.5cm for seam allowance or 2.5cm for growth... I like looser clothes on children, so I leave about 2.5cm and they will last longer :) Add height from below Cut along the drawn line. Let's check if we cut it correctly. The seam of the pant legs should be the same size, the crotch seam on one side should be longer than the other I have problems with the accuracy of the pattern, my old pants frayed to holes in the groin after just a couple of months of wearing them to kindergarten, but what’s great about knitwear is that it hides small imperfections in the work, so don’t be afraid to do something wrong...And it’s even better to sew more babies GROW UP, the less, unless, of course, you have a second daughter, less :))) 4. We sew along the crotch seam on both sides with a zigzag, do not stretch the fabric, otherwise it will worry, the distance between the stitches is not very small, I usually take about 2, the stitch width is maximum... By the way, you can not cut, but sew first and then cut or cut with a large seam allowance and then cut it off, then you will completely get rid of the wave on the fabric. I have a special overlock stitch on my machine and I stitch it right along the edge :) 5. We measure the lace along the bottom, I prefer to always cut off a little more, From bitter experience, often well-measured lace ended 1 cm from the edge when basting :( We baste the lace, fold the edge inward, put the lace on top... Check whether the front side of the lace matches the front side of the crotch seam:) We sew everything with the same zigzag 6. We remove the pins, admire it :))) we pin it off at the groin, matching the seam as much as possible, we chop off the lace on both sides, straighten it and pin off the pant legs between the crotch and the lace. If you didn’t skip checking the cut pattern, then everything should fit together, if there is a skew, then we split the groin, straighten the pant legs and cut off a little in the groin where there is more... But it’s better to check it again at the pattern stage: (Do not pin the pins close to the seam , otherwise it will interfere with an even stitch. Sew, turn, We are glad that it is almost ready :))) 7. Fold the fabric at the top to the width of the elastic band + seam and stitch. If you are not sure about the evenness of the seam, for example like me, then it is better to bend it more, then the curvature will not lead to the elastic not fitting, and you will have to look for a thinner elastic :))) Leave room to insert an elastic band! 8. We insert the elastic band, measure the length of the elastic band on the baby, fold the elastic band and sew it across using a machine, cut off the elastic band...

All is ready:))

P.S. Writing this post took longer than sewing the shorts itself :))) A paper pattern for all children's sizes can be found in Ottobre winter 2004, the technology is the same, only the seam allowances do not need to be so large....

Hello, my dear readers! Today we will focus on one very favorite and common clothing among women - leggings, and learn how to make them pattern. What is the secret of the convenience and popularity of leggings among girls and women?

Firstly, it’s beautiful, because tight leggings, like leggings, successfully emphasize slender legs.

Secondly, it's convenient. Convenient to play sports, comfortable as home wear, convenient to walk, travel.

And all this thanks to the elastic knitted fabrics from which the leggings are made.

Leggings are convenient to combine with blouses or T-shirts, and can be used as a stylish addition to a dress or skirt.

  • classic models(plain)
  • capris (ankle length, goes well with mini skirts)
  • (for training, walking and active recreation)
  • leather leggings(such leggings are usually made from artificial leather)
  • evening (differ from classic ones by the presence of lace, beads, sequins)
  • jeggings (these are leggings made from knitwear to look like jeans)
  • treggings (sewn from thick knitwear and decorated with patch pockets and eyelets)

What to wear with leggings?

This is a versatile garment that goes well with T-shirts, tunics, long sweaters, dresses and skirts.

Leggings go perfectly with ballet flats, high boots with or without heels, and with sports shoes.

When creating a pattern for leggings, negative increases are taken, since leggings are sewn from tight-fitting materials, thus reducing the volume and length of the measurements taken. The amount of negative increases depends on the elasticity of the fabric.

What measurements should I take for leggings?

Now, as an example, I will create a pattern for size 46 leggings. So, my measurements:

Half hip circumference - 49.5 cm

Seat height - 25.5 cm

Knee height - 57 cm

Shin height - 16 cm

Hip circumference - 57 cm

Knee circumference - 38 cm

Calf circumference - 35 cm

Ankle circumference - 22 cm

Leggings length - 100 cm

Constructing a leggings pattern

The basis of the pattern was originally taken from the site http://xn--e1aialfecu4d.xn--p1ai/korfiati.ru/2016/03/vyikroyka-legginsov/

Place point A in the upper left corner.

We set aside to the right in a straight line AA1 = 49.5 - 5 = 44.5 cm (from the half-circumference of the hips we subtract a negative increase of 5 cm).

Negative increases:

  • for knitwear with synthetics - 7-8 cm
  • for cotton jersey with elastane - 4-6 cm

Select your increase for your fabric and continue with the calculations.

Divide AA1 in half, place point A2. From point A2 we lay down a perpendicular along which we lay: A2D2 = 25.5 (seat height), A2K2 = 57 (knee height according to the measurements taken), K2G2 = 16 (shin height), A2H2 = 100 cm (leggings length according to the measurements taken ).

We draw a horizontal line through point D2. We lower perpendiculars from points A and A1 to this horizontal line. We get points D and C. Now we have drawn a step line.

Now let’s draw the line of the hips: from point D2 we put upward D2B2 = 7.95 (round to 8, to calculate this value we add 3 cm to 1/10 of the semi-circumference of the hips)

We draw a horizontal line through point B2, and at the points of intersection of the lines we place points B and B1.

From point D2 horizontally to the right and left we set aside half thigh circumference according to the measurement taken minus 2 cm = 26.5. We put points D1 and C1.

From point K2, measure horizontally to the left and right half the circumference of the knee according to your measurements taken = 38/2 = 19 cm. Place points K and K1.

From point H2 we set aside half the circumference of the ankle minus 2 cm = 22/2 - 2 = 9 cm.

We connect the points D1K, KN, S1K1, K1H1 with straight lines. In the thigh area we bend these lines under the pattern, in the shin area we bend these lines under the pattern.

For the convenience of processing sections of leggings from the bottom line HH1, we make step cuts at right angles, and then under the pattern.

From point A on the waist line we put 4 to 6 cm to the right. Connect points A4 and B.

From point A1 we put 6 cm to the left and down 2 cm. We connect this point with B1 with a straight line.

We create a slightly curved waist line under the pattern.

To make a belt on leggings, you need to build a one-piece facing for the elastic. To do this, draw parallel to the waist line at a level of 2.5 - 3 cm above the waist line (indicated in gray in the drawing).

Now let's draw a cutting line for the bow. We measure the segment CC1 and put half of the resulting value upward from point C. We get point C2. Connect points C1 and C2. And now we connect points C1 and B1 under the pattern.

We also draw a cut line on the back half. Under the pattern we connect points B and D1 with a curved line.

We are done with creating the pattern. We cut out both halves of the leggings in one piece. Then they will be without side seam. We take allowances for side cuts of 1 cm, for the bottom - 3 cm.

In the next article I will show you how sew your own leggings.

An excellent master class on how to sew children's leggings in 30 minutes, and without spending money on material. Because leggings for a child can easily be made from an unwanted T-shirt of one of the parents. How to do this - read below. And also see how it looks in practice in the video with a master class from Dana and Miranda.

How to sew leggings for a child with your own hands? What fabric to make children's leggings from? All these questions are very understandable on the eve of summer, when children scratch the knees of their pants and leggings at the speed of sound, so that within a week, children’s wardrobes can easily become empty. In addition, not all mothers are ready to buy new leggings as soon as the child ruins the ones he has.

We offer a very simple and understandable master class from Dana, author of the Madeeveryday blog and her friend Miranda, the “queen of DIY leggings,” on how to sew children’s leggings with your own hands in 20 minutes.

How to sew children's leggings with your own hands: make a pattern

To make a pattern before sewing your baby's leggings, Dana suggests using the baby leggings your baby is wearing.

Take a piece of paper you have, it could be wrapping paper or even wallpaper. If you have baby leggings that fit your baby but are no longer needed, cut them down the inseam. Place the resulting part on paper and trace it. Don't forget to allow an allowance (2-3 cm) for the elastic. Cut out the pattern.

How to sew leggings for a child with your own hands: method No. 1

To make leggings for a child from a T-shirt, attach the pattern made from the first sample to a clean, ironed adult-sized T-shirt, so that the bottom edge of the pattern matches the bottom edge of the T-shirt. This way you won't have to finish the bottom edge of your leggings. Cut out the pieces.

Fold the piece in half, wrong side out. Sew the inside seam of the trouser leg. Use a seam on your sewing machine for knitted fabrics.

After both legs are sewn, you need to sew them together. Turn one pant leg right side out and tuck it into the other pant leg, as Dana does at minute 7:40. Pin or baste the crotch seams. Sew.

How to sew children's leggings: method No. 2

To sew leggings from a cut knitted fabric, like Miranda does, you need to fold it in half and then fold it again. Attach a pattern made according to the second sample, marking the fold. Cut by making an allowance at the bottom.

Miranda makes leggings with a yoga waist, padded waistband, so she cuts out another piece. To figure out what size piece you need for children's leggings with a soft waistband, measure your child's waist. If you want the belt to fit snugly, subtract 7-8 cm from your waist circumference. This will be the length of the part. The width of the part is 16 cm, in order to obtain a belt 8 cm wide.

One more thing, Miranda sews leggings using an overlocker. This way there is no need to further process the seams.

How to sew leggings with a soft belt with your own hands using an overlocker. Take one pant leg, fold it in half, and sew the inner seam. We do the same with the other pant leg.

Then, as Dana showed earlier, we turn one pant leg right side out and tuck it into the other. Sew the crotch seams.

Now let's grab the belt. Fold the piece in half, wrong side out, and sew the edges together to make a circle. Fold the resulting circle in half, right side out, and put it on almost finished leggings, turning it inside out, as in the video at 13:30 minutes. If there is a print on the fabric, you need to pay attention so that the direction of the pattern on the leggings and the belt coincides; in this case, Miranda draws attention to the fact that the berries all “look” in the same direction.

Sew it together. Two layers of belt and actual leggings. Since the waistband is slightly shorter than the waistband circumference of the leggings, you will need to tighten the waistband slightly while sewing.

To finish the bottom of the legs, roll them in a couple of centimeters and turn them inside out, as Miranda shows at 14:20. This way, when you stitch on the overlocker, you will get a neat seam. Be careful not to cut off anything unnecessary.

Leggings are very popular clothing among children, and especially among girls. It is convenient to spend leisure time in them, play sports, and just walk. This comfort is achieved due to the material from which the leggings are sewn - elastic and bi-elastic knitted fabrics. Leggings can be combined with or, and in the cold season, leggings can even be worn over tights. In this lesson we will tell you how to create an exact pattern for children's leggings, and also give a master class on sewing such a product.

What types of leggings do you know?

  • Classic - plain, which you can wear either separately or under a skirt or dress.
  • Capri leggings - their length can be ankle-length or slightly higher. They mostly come in bright colors and are especially popular when paired with a miniskirt.
  • Evening leggings - suggest the presence of lace trim, sequins, stones, beads, etc.
Sports leggings - for sports, outdoor activities and walks.
  • Leggings (jeggings) - a combination of leggings and jeans, sewn from knitwear under jeans, elastic and tightly fitting the legs.
  • Treggings - appearance imitate tight trousers, are sewn from thick fabric and can be decorated with studs and patch pockets.

IMPORTANT! Since leggings are very tight-fitting clothing, which is made only from elastic materials, all increases are made negative, that is, the volumes and lengths of the measurement values are reduced depending on the elasticity of the fabric.

The negative increase for volume measurements is 15-20%, for length measurements - 5%.

Advice! Negative increases should be increased or decreased depending on the elasticity of the fabric.

The pattern was created for a height of 140 cm. To construct basic pattern leggings, you need to remove:

  1. Waist 61 cm
  2. Hip circumference 75 cm
  3. Hip height 14 cm
  4. Seat height 21 cm
  5. Knee height 48 cm
  6. Calf height 13 cm (measured from the knee to the widest part of the calf)
  7. Knee circumference 31 cm
  8. Calf circumference 25 cm
  9. Ankle circumference 20 cm
  10. Leggings length (ankle length) 80-83 cm.

Creating a pattern for children's leggings

Place point A at the top center of the sheet. Through point A, draw a horizontal line to the left and right (Fig. 1). Along the line, set aside segments AA1 = AA2 = 16 cm (1/4 of the hip circumference as measured minus 15% (negative increase)).

Leggings length. From point A, lower down a perpendicular segment AH = 83 cm (Length of leggings according to measurement). AN - side line.

Hip line. From points A1 and A2, lower the perpendiculars down: A1B1 = A2B2 = 14 cm - 5% = 13.3 cm (Hip height according to measurements with a negative increase). Connect points B1 and B2 with a straight segment; at the intersection with the side line, point B is obtained.

Step line. Extend the perpendiculars from points A1 and A2 down:
A1D1 = A2D2 = 21 cm - 5% = 20 cm (Seat height according to measurement with a negative increase). Connect points D1 and D2 with a straight line. At the intersection with the side line, point D is obtained.

Rice. 1. Pattern for children's leggings

Knee line. Section AK = 48 cm - 5% = 45.6 cm (Knee height according to measurements with a negative increase). Through point K, draw a horizontal segment of arbitrary length.

Step width of the front half of the leggings. D2D3 = 1/20ROB - 0.5 cm = 75 cm / 20 - 0.5 cm = 3.25 cm. Lay off the segment D2D4 = ½ D2D3 from point D2 upwards.

The center line of the front half of the leggings. From point A2 along the waist line, set aside 2 cm to the left and 2 cm down (for all sizes) - point A3. Connect points A3, B2 and D3 as shown in Fig. 1.

Step width of the back half of the leggings. D1D5 = 1/10OB - 1.5 cm = 75 cm / 10 - 1.5 cm = 6 cm Set aside D1D5 = 6 cm.

The middle line of the back half of the leggings. From point A1 along the waist line, move 3.5 cm to the right (for all sizes) - point A4. Connect points A4, B1 and D5 as shown in the drawing (Fig. 1).

Increase on the drawstring for the elastic band. Connect points A4 and A3. Add a 2cm hem allowance for the drawstring at the top edge of the leggings.

Step seams. Along the knee line from point K, set aside ½ of the knee circumference to the left and right with a negative increase: KK1 = KK2 = (31 cm -15%)/2 = 13.2 cm.

Along the shin line from point L, set aside ½ of the shin girth to the left and right with a negative increase: LL1 = LL2 = (25 cm - 15%)/2 = 10.6 cm.

Along the bottom line from point H, set aside ½ of the ankle circumference to the left and right with a negative increase: HH1 = HH2 = (20 cm - 15%)/2 = 8.5 cm. Construct sections crotch H1-L1-K1-D5 and H2-L2-K2-D3 with smooth lines.

Details of the leggings cut are shown in Fig. 2. Cut out two pieces with seam allowances of 1 cm on all sides, 2 cm at the bottom of the leggings.

Advice! To make it convenient to process the lower edge of the leggings, from the bottom line (H1H2) draw short sections of step cuts at right angles, then along the pattern.

Rice. 2. Details of the cut of children's leggings

IMPORTANT! After constructing the pattern, check all the girths on the lines: waist, hips, step, knee, shin and ankle.
