Christmas tree decorations decoupage. Decoupage is easy! New Year's ball. Now about the process itself

Approaching New Year, and now is the time to think about the festive decoration of the interior and the New Year tree. Of course, today you can purchase any Christmas tree decoration in a store without any problems. But handmade Christmas decorations look much more interesting and original.

One of my latest crafting hobbies is decoupage. It is with this technique that I want to decorate the New Year’s tree ball. Let's see what I get as a result. As a basis for creating my original and unique Christmas tree decoration, I decided to use the most ordinary and cheapest plastic New Year's ball purchased at the nearest supermarket:

And it doesn’t matter to me at all what color it is - anyway, I’m going to transform it beyond recognition.

In addition to the Christmas ball, I prepared for work:

  • a beautiful decorative napkin with a New Year's pattern,
  • primer,
  • acrylic paints (white and gold),
  • brushes,
  • a small piece of foam rubber,
  • fine-grained sandpaper,
  • scissors,
  • decoupage glue,
  • thick cotton thread white(I have cotton “Lilac”, but you can also take No. 10),
  • PVA glue,
  • gold glitter,
  • glossy acrylic varnish,
  • golden organza ribbon,
  • gold lurex thread

Master class: how to make decoupage of a New Year's ball with your own hands

To begin with, I disassemble the Christmas ball into parts, which I then cover with a layer of white primer.

When the primer has dried, I apply three layers of white acrylic paint to the surface of the ball using a foam sponge. I let each layer dry thoroughly.

After making sure that the paint is completely dry, I sand the surface of the ball with fine-grained sandpaper. I really want the surface of the Christmas ball to be as smooth as possible.

Of course, it was not possible to achieve a perfectly flat surface. Lack of patience and fear of overdoing it and rubbing a hole in the paint layer got in the way.

After removing the dust from the surface of the ball with a dry cloth, I begin decorating it using the decoupage technique.

While several layers of acrylic paint were drying, I wasted no time - I cut out two designs from a decorative napkin and, having layered the napkin, left only the top paint layer for work.

Now I glue the prepared napkin motifs to the surface of the ball on one side and the other, using decoupage glue and a wide flat synthetic brush.

For the first time in my decoupage practice, I manage to stick both motifs without a single crease. And this despite the fact that the surface of the product is not flat, but spherical! Perhaps the dusty and uninteresting work of preparing a smooth surface for decoupage was not in vain?

The pasted motifs must also be allowed to dry. While the glue dries, I paint the loop for attaching the New Year's ball with gold acrylic paint, again using a piece of foam rubber for this purpose.

Since the designs I chose do not cover the entire surface of the ball, I decided to decorate the empty spaces in an interesting and completely simple way.

I cut several pieces of white cotton thread 12 cm long. You can use longer pieces, but my ball is very small, so I don’t need long pieces of thread.

I wet each piece of thread with water one by one, and then cover it with PVA glue. The glue can be applied with anything: a brush, a sponge. But I prefer to do it with my fingers.

I lay the wet threads in the form of a pattern on the surface of the ball. My imagination was only enough for curls and loops, but in general, of course, the pattern can be absolutely anything.

In those places where the thread lies unevenly, I correct it with a thin flat brush dipped in water.

Thread patterns dry very quickly. Therefore, as soon as the last thread is laid, I begin to cover the curls with gold sparkles, drawing each element of the pattern with adhesive glitter.

Finishing the work of decorating the New Year's ball, I cover the ball itself and the loop for fastening with glossy acrylic varnish. I apply the varnish in two layers with intermediate drying.

Having meticulously examined the finished ball, I decide to add a bow made of translucent golden ribbon to it. I tie the ribbon to a loop and thread a gold lurex thread through it so that the ball can be hung on the Christmas tree.

I admire the completely transformed cheap Chinese plastic ball and think about how small New Year's miracle Even a non-certified wizard can create it with his own hands.

In this article we will talk about how to decorate ordinary New Year's balls in an unusual and beautiful way, turning them into something unique.

Nothing sets the New Year's mood better than decoupage of Christmas balls! Of course, it is much easier to go to the nearest store and buy finished products. But we are convinced that you will get much more positive energy from handicrafts than from going to the store.

How to make decoupage of foam New Year's and old Christmas tree balls: a master class for beginners

Foam – extremely comfortable pliable material for beginners. It cannot be broken like glass. And decorative elements such as fabric or beads can simply be attached with pins.

For example, even a beginner can handle this decor. Sequins are attached close to each other using decorative pins or regular pins decorated with beads.

If you have more free time, you can try decorating a foam ball as follows. First you should stock up:

  • Foam blank
  • Ground
  • Special varnish for decoupage
  • Brush
  • By water
  • Needles, pin
  • Sponge
  • Sequins, sequins, beads, ribbon, thread

IMPORTANT: The presence of soil should not be ignored - it will give the workpieces the smoothness they need. This is especially necessary if an old toy that is already “out of date” is being processed.

The procedure is as follows:

  • The ball is covered primer. A dense layer is needed. You should not ignore any areas of the craft.

  • The preparation must certainly dry out. If you can’t wait to continue working as quickly as possible, you can use a hairdryer.
  • Now it's your turn decoupage varnish. This will allow the glitter that will be applied later to stick to the ball better.
  • Once the varnish is dry, you can finally apply glitter. To do this, dip a sponge or sponge into them, and then use blotting movements to treat the ball. You can use one color of glitter, or you can combine different options.

  • Next is the ball pierced with a pin, to which you can attach a ribbon- for her the toy will be hung on the Christmas tree.
  • Now on pins and needles beads and sequins are attached. The beads are stuck into the foam. You can create different patterns in this way.

IMPORTANT: The bead should serve as the “cap” of the needle, like a decorative pin. The sequin is placed under the bead.

  • Textile on the reverse side should be iron.
  • Need to cut out the shreds, previously by measuring the parameters of the sections marked on the ball. Definitely worth it leave about a centimeter for seam allowance. It is advisable to cut the fabric in the form of regular rectangles, since during the decoupage process it may “move to the side” a little, leaving gaps on the ball.
  • Next, using toothpicks or knitting needles, the fabric needs to be tucked into the slits of the ball. It's worth starting from the middle gradually moving towards the edges.

IMPORTANT: Of course, you can simply glue the fabric, but there is a high risk that it will become deformed during the gluing process. In this case, it will be impossible to correct the craft.

Decoupage of Christmas balls in vintage style: description, photo

Materials:

  • The diameter of the balls is not too small, otherwise the pictures will be inconvenient to glue
  • Acrylic white primer
  • Glue varnish, which is used in decoupage, as well as acrylic glossy varnish
  • Decoupage napkins with vintage images
  • Scraps of old newspapers, sheet music
  • Acrylic paint in some vintage tones. It’s worth considering purchasing paint in an antique gold tone.
  • Glitter
  • Wet wipes
  • All sorts of things for decoration like beads, sequins, lace, ribbons, texture paste. Since we are talking about vintage, ink, archival stamps for text, various dried flowers, sprays, etc. will also come in handy.

Now about the process itself:

  • First thing, the ball is being prepared– primed with a sponge. For convenience, it is recommended to first remove the caps from the balls and place the balls on a stick. By the way, the lids should also be treated with a primer.

  • The balls must be given dry.

  • Meanwhile the images on the napkins are cut off.
  • Once the primer is dry, you can use glue attach pictures. You need to coat the napkin with glue over the image.

IMPORTANT: You need to smooth the napkin from the middle to the edges.

  • Now we need to produce coating with decoupage varnish.

  • Next you can glue pieces of newspapers, sheet music. The principle is the same as with napkins - gluing it onto glue and spreading it on top.
  • Now you can stick, For example, waxed cord or apply texture paste through a stencil. They will also create a vintage effect. And how can you resist crackle pastes, creating a cracking effect?

Crackle paste is what you need for a vintage ball!
  • Then you can walk on top of all this splendor white acrylic, trying to powder and hide all the clear boundaries. The waxed cord must be completely hidden under paint.

  • Now it's time colored paints. Apply them with your fingers, then lightly smear them with a napkin. The result should be a worn effect.

IMPORTANT: It is preferable to work with several colors of similar tones. For example, red, brown. Applying antique gold paint to the ball

  • Then, since the imitation of antique gold has gone, you can apply a little gold leaf. It is applied to the glue using a brush.

  • Spray with pearlescent red tint It might come in handy here too. You just need to apply it a little.
  • Now it won’t hurt to powder the workpiece a little white acrylic. There shouldn’t be a lot of it – you just need to create a dusty effect.

  • If you wish, you can using ink and text stamp embellish the craft.

  • It won't hurt either glitter– it is applied with a brush.

  • Now you need glue the balloon cap back on, and decorate the craft itself with some decor like flowers, ribbons.

IMPORTANT: The balloon cap should also be decorated.

  • Finally, it is recommended to use acrylic varnish. Moreover, it is advisable to use a spray varnish in order not to smear previous works with a brush.

Lacy New Year's ball Decoupage of balls with napkins and craquelure paint

A New Year's ball decorated with your own hands is a great gift idea! Anyone will undoubtedly be proud of such a unique and beautiful ball in their collection.

Video: Master class on how to decoupage a ball and a box for it:

Since this is the first decoupage master class in the group, I will write a little about this technique. It appeared in the 15th century. The essence of decoupage is cutting and pasting. Initially, not only paper was used for gluing, but also leather, wood, and fabrics. Any surface was taken as a basis - wood, glass, fabric.
21st century - a new birth of decoupage. It has become fashionable again, and in stores in almost all major cities you can easily find materials for various techniques of this type of creativity.

Today I suggest you decorate a Christmas ball using decoupage technique. For these purposes, not only a special blank is suitable, but also the now popular plastic balls. In addition, this is a great chance to give a second life to old glass balls.

For work we will need:
1. Ball (the larger it is, the more convenient it will be to decorate it)
2. Sponge (I use a sponge for washing dishes. It will be enough to cut a piece of it about 1x2 cm)
3. Acrylic white paint.
4. Acrylic colored paints.
5. 3-layer napkin with a beautiful pattern (preferably with not very large elements)
6. PVA glue
7. Wide soft brush (squirrel brush)
8. Acrylic varnish (untinted)
9. Elements for additional decoration (I used tinsel and semolina)
10. Scissors

Step 1
Don't forget to put newspaper or oilcloth on the table!
We cover our balls with white paint using a sponge. I have a light ball, so I apply a thin layer of paint, there are small gaps here and there. If your ball is dark, you will have to paint it on a second layer, after thoroughly drying the first one.

It is better to hold the painted ball by the “handle”. After coloring, tie a thread to the eyelet and hang it to dry. I stuck pencils under the microwave and hung them on them. Drying takes 1-2 hours. It's better not to rush. The paint may not dry and may smear.

Step 2
While our balls are drying, we cut out the motifs from the napkins, having previously separated 2 white ones from the colored layer, which we will not need. Don't be lazy - the less background left, the neater the work will look. But you shouldn’t deprive the background of very fine details either - they will simply come off.
It is better to separate the motifs from the elements - it will be easier to glue them.

Step 3
Now let's arm ourselves with a brush and glue!
It is better to dilute the glue with water 1:1.
Carefully glue the motif from the middle. Avoid folds! And don’t be too zealous with the brush so as not to tear the design.

And again we hang our balls to “rest” for an hour. In the meantime, wash the brush yourself - if it dries, then you can’t wash it.

Step 4
Now let's start tinting. For tinting, in addition to paints, you can use pastels. Those who are already familiar with this can try working with it. Those who decided to try their hand at decoupage for the first time - wait for another MK - I will definitely tell you.
Now let's work with the paint.
Mix the color we need - it’s better to stick to the color of the napkin, then you won’t have to paint the background between the parts.
We paint along the motifs especially carefully so as not to get into the drawing. The paint will not wash off the paper.
After painting, we return our balls to dry.

Step 5
We proceed to additional decoration with semolina. It gives a very interesting "frozen" effect.
The steps are simple - apply a pattern with glue (preferably not diluted) and sprinkle with semolina!
Then let it dry again.

To ensure that a little semolina sticks, sprinkle it on the area nearby, and let it roll onto the glue on its own.

When the glue dries, paint the semolina. It’s better to try not to touch the background, but if this happens, don’t despair, continue drawing with a thin line. Paint carefully - the semolina may crumble. Do not skimp on water - the thinner the paint, the better it will penetrate between the grains. You can quickly pass thick paint over the surface of the semolina - then only the upper part will be painted. This gives an interesting effect, but is only suitable for yellow-brown images - unpainted semolina turns yellow.
Well, then dry it again!

For a snowy effect we use white paint. but you can paint it with other colors.

Step 6
In fact, this is the last step of decoupage.
At this stage we have to coat our ball with varnish to give it shine, fix the paint and the napkin.
We take the sponge in our hands again and carefully apply it to the surface of the ball.
Don't forget to dry!

Step 7
After drying, our balls can be considered ready

But there is one BUT: as a rule, the place around the cutting does not look neat. Perhaps the transition from the ball to the handle will be poorly painted, or the handle itself will get dirty. But that's technical. But in fact, we want to give the ball some completeness. I used tinsel to decorate the cuttings. You can use ribbons, beads, small cones - whatever your imagination pleases.
I tied the stem with tinsel, like a bow. I simply wrapped the other ball in tinsel with wire inside and twisted its ends. To fix the tinsel on the handle, you can drop a drop of glue (it is better to use super glue) or the varnish that was used to cover the ball onto the joint.

Now our balls can take their rightful place on the Christmas tree!

Adviсe:

If you suddenly decide to use gouache instead of acrylic paints, add PVA glue to it - then it will smear less during subsequent work.

Don't skimp on drying time. It is better to stretch out the work over several days than to get an unsatisfactory result.

Don't forget to wash your tools after each stage of work. Paint and glue can render them unusable if they dry on them. The same applies to work surfaces.

Nowadays, DIY work is increasingly valued. Such work can be appreciated by friends, acquaintances and relatives, because a person puts part of his soul into this work. But the most important thing is decoupage Christmas decorations can bring a sea of positive emotions, awaken a feeling of celebration, and thanks to this design the interior will become festive and cozy. Even someone who has never done anything like this can create a New Year’s toy, and the work will be a pleasure.

In order to get started, you need to stock up on special tools for manufacturing. Of course, many of the elements can be replaced, but the master will always have these items in stock.

What you may need:

  • Napkins with the desired pattern (this is the most important element in the work);
  • Special glue for decoupage technique, it is often replaced with ordinary PVA glue; it is enough to dilute it slightly with water;
  • Synthetic fiber brushes;
  • Decoupage varnish;
  • Sponge;
  • Acrylic paints, you can choose any color at the request of the master;
  • Ribbons that will be attached to the toy, and for which it will subsequently be attached to the Christmas tree.

The remaining materials are merely supplementary and are used as required. So, for example, to create a voluminous toy, you may need a special gel, which, after application, acquires convex shape. Then it is painted in the desired color. In addition to gel, beads, rhinestones, beads and sparkles are often used. To attach these materials, it is best to use a glue gun. Do New Year's decoupage impossible if there is no basis for work.

In order to begin work, you must purchase the following supplies:

  • Christmas balls, they may be old;
  • Special forms made of polystyrene foam in the form of a ball;
  • Wooden base;
  • Old light bulbs;
  • Cardboard, preferably thick, will be needed for cutting out shapes;
  • Buttons or similar materials if the toy is on wheels.

Technology: decoupage on wooden toys

Wooden toys will never go out of style. If a wooden toy is created from scratch, but the craftsman has already decided that it will be decorated using the decoupage technique, experts advise purchasing the necessary tools and components in a specialized store, ready-made. The work of creating a wooden New Year's toy is painstaking and long, because wood material requires more attention.

Before decorating a toy, it must be processed. Primary treatment will prevent adhesion of the surface and pattern in the future. In order for the material to fit well on the toy, the wood is thoroughly cleaned, after which, if there are chips or cracks, putty must be used. Then the wood is primed and you can use an artistic primer or white acrylic paint. The choice of such paint is due to the fact that it is on this shade that all other colors will be maximally manifested.

If the wood was coated with varnish or other paint before starting work, it must be removed. You may need a special grinder for this job. After this, the remaining chips are brushed away and then all the steps listed above occur.

Without following all processing rules, creating New Year's wooden toy using the decoupage technique is impossible, since all the work will lose its original appearance after just a couple of hours.

Decoupage of New Year's toys: master class on processing Christmas balls

Of course, it’s enough to register on the Internet a master class on processing certain material, and the video and photo options are amazing in their abundance.

As for the master class on processing a New Year's ball, everything here is much simpler than it might seem at first glance.

To begin with, before starting the main work, you need to remove the wire from the ball and in order to make the work more comfortable, the ball needs to be secured to a rod. The ball should be prepared for further processing with sandpaper. Thus, its upper surface is cleaned off. After this work, glitter and paint are washed off with a cotton pad. This treatment will help further paint application go on more evenly and more firmly.

The next stage that is carried out with the toy is the primer, which will be the basis for the picture. For this acrylic paint, preferably white, diluted with PVA glue. This composition is applied to the ball with a sponge and then left to dry. After the ball has dried, the primer is repeated. After the work has been done, the design itself begins using the decoupage technique. The drawing should be selected in accordance with the New Year's theme. Napkins are an excellent material for decoration; the design on them should correspond to the size of the ball.

The napkin you choose should have slits. They will allow it to acquire the necessary shape after application and avoid the formation of unsightly folds.

In order to glue the napkin to the ball, you can use PVA glue, which must be diluted with water before application. This master class will help you create a beautiful New Year's ball that will decorate any Christmas tree.

How to decorate toys: decoupage and its styles

There is a huge variety of decoupage styles in which you can decorate New Year's toys, you just need to understand what exactly your heart requires.

An interesting solution would be to design a Christmas ball with a photo of your relatives. The technology for this type of work is simple. You just need to soak the photograph in warm water for a short time, and then use a needle to separate the layers, leaving only the thin layer with the required image.

For children's fun, you can create colorful toys. Decoupage is created using polystyrene foam, and if you add a 3D design to it and apply varnish to it, the result can be a real work of art.

Decoupage of New Year's toys (video)

Summing up the article about the decoupage technique, we can say that there are a lot of creation options. Don’t be upset if you didn’t get the perfect decoration on the first try and put everything on the back burner. Having mastered the basics and reinforced them by watching the video, having practiced, you can show your imagination and create not only decorations for the Christmas tree, but also boxes, gift souvenirs and many other various works.

This master class was born completely spontaneously, and the work was done literally in the evening. In general, not very complicated, but incredibly sweet, and looking at her, you want to smile and believe in a fairy tale.

Let's get started. There are not very many photographs, and the main thing here is the materials for creating frosty patterns - Maimeri body painting gel and snow-white glitter(I have Rayher, like in the photo, only completely white, without any tints of color).

Everything is clear about glitter, so I’ll tell you about the gel. This is actually a texture paste that retains its volume and when dried becomes completely transparent and glossy. It can be tinted, but it needs to be applied in a not very thick layer, no more than 3-4 mm, and it takes a very long time to dry if the layer is thick (a very thick layer may not dry out inside and remain white). But we will apply it in a very thin layer :)

So let's get started.

Master class on decoupage paintings with frosty patterns

1. We take a regular frame with glass, the backdrop turned out to be cardboard, but this is even better.

2. Print out a suitable picture on a regular office sheet of paper ( laser printer) - I have Father Frost and Snow Maiden, very sweet and kind, not funny, not comic, but just like real ones, surprisingly there are not many such pictures on the Internet...
